Nasi Goreng, Chicken Satay, Beef Rendang, Gado Gado – no wonder there are so many incredible Indonesian dishes, Indonesia is made up of over 13,000 islands and many years of soaking up influences from Chinese, Indian, Dutch, Malay, Portuguese, Spanish and Middle Eastern cooking.

Faves include Nasi Goreng (a fried rice feast), Satay (sensational skewers of grilled meats and veggies), Gado Gado (a gorgeous peanut-sauced salad) and anything with Sambal (a spicy chilli-based sauce that fires up any dish). The tricky thing is deciding which to order. Luckily, most Indonesian eateries offer a Rijsttafel. Rijsttafel translates as ‘Rice Table’ which gives you a clue as to its magnificence – it’s basically a whole table full of little Indonesian dishes, with rice.
