Planning an impromptu mid-afternoon or late-night sugar rush? Just Eat is the way to rush the sugar. Desserts from the Middle East and Far East offer exotic alternatives to the best of the West. Baklava is a rich, sweet dessert pastry made from layer upon layer of filo crammed with chopped nuts bound with sticky syrup or honey. Turkish Delight (or Lokum) delights more that just Turkey – it gifts the whole world with (guilty) pleasure. Premium varieties consist of chopped dates or pistachios, gelled together and flavoured with rosewater, Bergamot orange, or lemon. Basbousa is a traditional sweet cake made from cooked semolina soaked in syrup with coconut. Halva is a densely sweet, crystallised paste of sesame seeds and sugar. Kanafeh is thin noodle-like pastry, soaked in sweet sugar-based syrup and often layered with cheese, clotted cream or nuts. You’d be nuts not to.

Q: Just Desserts? A: Just Eat. Eton Mess is an ever-so-English mixture of strawberries, broken meringue and whipped double cream. It originated at Eton College in 1893, but thanks to Just Eat, can now be delivered directly to your ‘house’. Banoffee Pie is made with fresh bananas plus toffee (Ban + offee, geddit?) with cream on a crumbly-biscuity-buttery base. On the subject of toffee, Sticky Toffee Pudding is another irresistible classic with moist sponge covered in fudgy, caramelised toffee. Still staying sticky, Treacle Tart dates back to English author Mary Jewry’s cookbook from the late 19th Century (the century was late, Just Eat won’t be). Jam Roly-Poly is a flat-rolled suet pudding, spread with jam and rolled up – Swiss-roll-style – then steamed or baked. Best with cold ice cream or hot custard (and the Just Eat app).
