Lebanese cooking is big on fresh fish, tasty meats, seafood, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lots of garlic and olive oil. Some Lebanese dishes can be traced back as far as the Romans. Many dishes were introduced by the Turks or the French when they ruled the roost. All those dishes are now excitedly devoured by a great many of us Brits, via the (very modern) Just Eat app.

Kibbeh is a classic Lebanese dish consisting of beef croquettes made with meat, bulgur wheat, mint leaves, pine nuts, onions and Middle Eastern spices. Pumpkin Kibbeh mixes this crunchy, oven-baked exterior with spicy stuffing and is one of many vegetarian forms of Kibbeh that are increasingly popular for those who are avoiding meat (but not taste). Baba Ghanoush is a Levantine dish of mashed cooked eggplant (aka aubergine) mixed with Tahini (toasted sesame), olive oil and various seasonings. In Lebanese cuisine, food is life, and sharing is seen as one of the great joys of being alive. At Just East, we couldn’t agree more (especially the sharing bit). Lamb is a hugely popular meat and appears in many dishes, including Kafta, which is minced lamb rolled into sausage shapes and grilled on the barbecue or oven. Falafel are deep-fried doughnut-like balls fashioned from ground chickpeas or fava beans. This traditional Eastern Mediterranean dish probably originated in Egypt (and nowadays definitely comes from the Just Eat app).
